A lot of people ask me this question, so I thought that maybe we could solve the mystery once for all!  Griddle plates are awesome tools when used outside in your yard or at home, but what happens if there’s no wind to make things move around while my food is trying its best not be overcooked by being cooked indoors over heaters since most houses don’t have real smokers anymore either way…

To begin, why would one consider using a frying pan or grill pan? A frying pan or grill pan is typically flat and has low sides that flare out slightly at the top. It’s made from metal and often has a long handle. A griddle is similar to a pan in that it can be used on an electric stove, but there are some characteristics that set them apart. The primary difference between the two is the thickness. Griddles are thicker than frying pans or grill pan which allows for more even heat distribution throughout the food being cooked. You’ll need to know how much cooking space you’re willing to give up (griddles don’t usually come smaller than 10 inches), and whether you’re willing to take care of the additional maintenance necessary for cast-iron or enameled cast-iron — all other materials can be put in the dishwasher. 

Stainless steel: This is by far the most popular type of griddle because it’s affordable and very durable. The only downside is that it does not conduct heat very well, so you’ll need to crank up the heat on your stovetop or consider buying a griddle with a double-sided design so one of the two flat surfaces can be used at a lower temperature than the other. 

Titanium coated aluminum: This is probably the lightest and easiest to clean type of griddle because it conducts heat well and doesn’t leach chemicals into your food like nonstick coatings do. However, aluminum can get hot spots if not adequately mixed with stainless steel alloys, which means you might have cold spots when cooking unless you buy an extra-large model, making this more expensive than other types of griddles. 

Cast iron: The original nonstick surface, this material is tried and true and heats evenly — assuming it’s well-seasoned. However, the griddle will be very heavy for its size and require special care because cast iron can rust unless seasoned properly after each use. It also needs to be scrubbed clean with soap and water to avoid residue buildup that can affect flavor. 

Enameled cast-iron: This type of griddle requires less maintenance than its plain counterparts because the enamel coating prevents rusting and makes cleanup a cinch. You should still season the cooking surface occasionally (two or three times a year) to maintain the mild nonstick properties that make this griddle type so easy to clean. The color of the lid will also affect how well this griddle heats up, so choose one that matches your stovetop.

Nonstick: These are probably the most convenient to use because they’re very easy to clean, but there’s no way around it — nonstick finishes scratch easily and can be ruined with metal cooking utensils (so stick with wood or silicone). Additionally, the coating may emit chemicals if overheated.

Be careful when using a griddle, especially an iron one on the glass stovetop. The metal is too heavy and can scratch or even worse cause glass to crack! Don’t slide it across; always lift with two hands if needed because of its heft- never store above your gas range either as accidents happen sometimes which means you have no protection in case something falls down onto that fragile surface 

Lift firmly but carefully so there’s not much pressure put upon any spot where damage might occur from dropped items like pots weighing several pounds each (tablespoons count!)

Know the condition of your Griddle

After you’ve finished drying it off, put it away immediately so that no water has time to form water droplets and head straight for your beautiful griddle surface.

Scratch Prevention 4: Store with Silicone Mat

Always store your griddle with something underneath it like a silicone mat or old towel (just not one that will scratch!) By doing this, you’ll protect its surface from getting scratched while it’s not in use. The bottom of the griddle is the most vulnerable part and will start getting scratched if not protected. Just be sure that when you take your griddle out, there’s nothing on it that can scratch or you could scratch up your mat.

Scratch Prevention 5: No Metal Utensils

Using metal utensils is one of the quickest ways to scratch up a griddle. If you want to be extra cautious, just avoid using them altogether! The great thing about griddles is that people often don’t have to clean them after use so they typically don’t need metal utensils in order to cook food. Of course if you do need a metal utensil, just buy silicone ones which won’t damage the surface at all! Just make sure to follow the instructions in Scratch Prevention #4.

How to season your griddle

Can you use a griddle on an electric stove? The griddle can be tricky to season, but it is worth it in the end. If you’re using a cast iron griddle pan for cooking, then once you’ve seasoned your griddle you will see how much easier it is to cook with and clean up after. Though the initial time investment seems like a lot, once done properly your gridded pan will be very easy to manage and care for over its lifetime.

Here we’ll show you how to season your griddle (only if not pre-seasoned) and keep it that way throughout its lifetime. Please note: this guide only applies to “modern” cast iron pans which have been pre-prepared with a clear coat ready for seasoning ingots or flakes. We will not be covering the more traditional method of “seasoning” or curing which is done with lard or other animal fats. This article only covers how to properly season your griddle if it has already come pre-prepared with a clear coat for seasoning; you can check this by rubbing the surface of the pan and seeing if there are any obvious solid parts (if no, then you should follow this guide).

1) Prepare your workspace

Make sure you have a well-ventilated space for this job, with plenty of room to place pans and ingredients, plus someplace to wash your hands when finished. Open a window – especially if using a fan-assisted oven! Also, make sure everything is clean and ready to go before you start.

2) First stage: cleaning the griddle

The first thing you must do is clean the griddle thoroughly with soapy water and a cloth or soft brush. This needs to be done just like you would when prepping any other pan for cooking, cleaning away anything that might hamper your seasoning process (food residue, old oil, etc). Once all the caked-on residue has been removed, give it another rinse with fresh water and leave flat to air dry completely – both sides. Make sure once this is dry that there isn’t a hint of moisture anywhere on the pan or in its seams, otherwise mold or rust can build up over time. If there’s any trace of moisture (even after leaving to dry overnight) then it’s best to start all over again with a clean pan.

3) Second stage: oven seasoning the griddle

Place your griddle inside an oven set between 250°F and 300°F, and let it preheat until very hot. When the oven is ready place the clean, dry pan on the middle rack and bake for 60 minutes – this should be enough time to fully coat your pan in a thin layer of oils which will condition the surface. Once finished baking, turn off the heat but leave the pan inside as it cools down. After about three hours remove from the oven, gently wipe any excess oil away with paper towels or kitchen rags and let the pan cool to room temperature (place a cold, wet towel on it if you’re in a hurry). Once at room temperature, carefully check again for any remaining signs of moisture and wipe away with paper towels or kitchen rags as before. Your pan is now ready to use!

How to keep your griddle seasoned

To maintain your griddle’s seasoning, it’s advised that you cook fatty meats such as bacon over direct heat first thing every time you use the grill; this grease will then be burned off when cooking other dishes. Be sure to wipe down with oil after each meal – this doesn’t need to be anything fancy either; simply rub some vegetable oil the surface of your griddle and wipe off the excess with a clean kitchen cloth or paper towel.

Clean griddle after cooking

After finishing cooking on griddle, turn off the heat source. Clean the griddle while it is still hot and wet with water. This makes cleaning easier. There are commercially available products to use for cleaning non-stick surfaces. Do not use abrasive or harsh cleaners as they may damage or scratch the surface of your cast iron griddle.

To prevent damage to kitchen countertops or other furniture surfaces, always put down a cloth or piece of cardboard before setting the hot pan down.

You can also apply a thin layer of cooking oil to the outside surface using paper towel or rag and baking it in an oven at 350 degrees for one hour. Cast iron grill pans are often sold with colorful, decorative designs on them – do not use abrasive cleaners to clean these off as this may remove any decoration that is applied! If your griddle has come with such a design and you wish to use it without ruining its look, be gentle when cleaning around those areas. If they still don’t come clean after rinsing and scrubbing thoroughly, you can try applying some diluted vinegar (1 part water: 1 part vinegar) and allow it to soak overnight before trying again.

Finally, always remember to clean the exterior griddle completely before storing it. If you leave spots of old food on the surface area, this may cause more permanent staining and damage that will more easily rust or corrode in storage between uses. You can wipe down a non-stick cast iron grill pan with cooking oil after each cleaning to keep it from rusting for longer periods of time during storage. Always store griddles inside an oven or some other heated space where they won’t get any cooler than room temperature. This helps protect against rust developing while not in use!

Remember these tips when caring for your non-stick cast iron grill pan: never put cold water into a hot pan and be sure to turn off heat source before beginning to clean the cast iron grill pan. 

Know your electric stove

Ceramic stoves are the most common ones. They are electric stovetops that use electro-magnets to get power from electricity to an iron surface, heated by coils underneath it. The popular model of this kind of electric stove is the smooth top one, but induction cooktops also use an iron surface, although they transfer heat into it using electromagnetic induction rather than direct contact with electric coils.

The third type of electric stove is halogen stove. Halogen stoves use halogen bulbs underneath the burner to get power from electricity. These lamps can get extremely hot, much hotter than even radiant stoves can get– 1,000 degrees Fahrenheit / 530 degrees Celsius. This type of electric stove oven may be seen inside cabinets; the cabinet contains a small oven where food can be cooked at high temperatures very quickly. Some models come with stainless steel stands for them to sit on like regular countertop stoves do. Halogen stove ovens are popular choices in restaurants and cafeterias because they heat food quickly.

The last type of electric stove is induction stove. Induction heaters use electromagnetic induction to get power from electricity and transfer it to the pan sitting on top of it. The energy transfer in this stove is so efficient, that in some cases even a few drops of water can cause severe burns when falling onto the cooking surface. Some models have glass ceramic tops that absorb more heat than plain metal, letting you cook much faster than with regular electric stove; others come with small magnets under their non-ceramic surface for this same reason. Cleaning an induction stovetop is very easy, since there are no cracks or crevices to collect dirt. Induction stove ovens are safe and very easy to clean because they have a non-stick surface which does not emit any chemicals when heated.

What to do when your electric stove top is scratched 

The first thing you should do is turn off the electricity. If the stove is still turned on and your hand (or anything else) touches it, it could result in severe shock or worse.

After you’ve turned the power off, slowly lift up each pot or pan and set them aside one by one. Then use a non-abrasive cleaner to wipe down the entire stove top area. Scratching won’t be as likely next time around if you use a soft cloth instead of steel wool pads or sponges that have been used previously on other surfaces.

In some cases, there may have been some food left on one of the burners – this can also lead to scratches if not cleaned properly before putting a new pot or pan on the burner.

It’s also not a bad idea to use some cooking oil before heating up the stove top again after you’re done cleaning it with soap and water. This will help prevent food or other materials from sticking to the surface in the future, which can lead to scratches forming or becoming even more permanent. If you don’t like using oils for health reasons (or your clothes tend to absorb the smell), vegetable spray will do just as well, if not better than oil (since most sprays are made mostly of oils). It may cost a few cents more here and there, but it’ll definitely be worth it in terms of protecting that shiny new appliance look on your stove top!

Because it is so easy to leave a burner on by accident and because they get dirty so easily I am very conscious about keeping my stove top looking brand new and hygienic.

How do you keep your stove top clean? The simple answer then would be that anything that cleans any other surface in your kitchen should work for your electric stove top too! However…If you’ve ever tried to use some common household cleaners such as bleach or Formula 409 than you know what I’m talking about when I say that sometimes this is easier said than done.

Steps to clean electric stove top:

1) Warm up 1/4 cup of vinegar for about 45 seconds (or until the contents are warm). 

2) Spray the warmed vinegar generously on all surfaces of your stove top inside and out; front, back and sides (and underneath if possible).  Allow the mixture to penetrate any burned-on residue for about 5 minutes before wiping off the surface with a damp cloth or sponge. Be sure to wipe in circular motions starting at one corner and moving towards the opposite side. Any leftover vinegar will evaporate quickly.

3) Once the stove top has been thoroughly cleaned, rinse with warm water once more and dry it with a clean cloth or paper towels.

4) As an optional step you can turn your oven on to 350 degrees while cleaning so that any remaining vinegar odors can be eliminated while baking for about 20 minutes.

Can you use a griddle on an electric stove? Most people don’t know how to cook a wide variety of good meals with a griddle, so here are some common recipes that have been tested for deliciousness.

1) Pancakes

Using batter made from flour and milk, pour circles onto the hot surface then flip once bubbles form throughout them. They can also fry sausage patties directly after being taken off the griddle.

2) Fajitas

Fajitas are simply seasoned meats in a tortilla. You simply place the meat on top of the griddle, cut vegetables to size and add them, then wrap it all up in the tortilla. The fajitas are done when the meat is cooked through, or when juices run clear after piercing with a fork.

3) Burgers

Using beef patties made from ground beef (with or without seasonings), cook on each side for about four minutes. Place cheese onto one patty before flipping for additional deliciousness if desired. To melt the cheese, cover with inverted bowl.

Cut boneless, skinless chicken into long strips then dip into egg or buttermilk then coat with various spices if desired. Then place directly onto hot surface where they are cooked until juices run clear when pierced with a fork.

6) French Toast 

Slice firm bread into thick slices and pour egg mixture over them to soak the bread entirely while flipping once browned on each side. This can also be made by taking two pieces of toast and sticking them together with cheese in between before frying on griddle. It is called French Toast because the word “French” is seen more often than any other language in this recipe’s description. 

7) Bean and Cheese Burritos

Using canned refried beans, place in tortillas then add shredded cheese on top of beans before rolling up to avoid cheese spilling out when heated by griddle. Place directly onto hot surface where they are cooked until crispy on the outside and melted inside. Garnish with sour cream or salsa if desired. For added deliciousness, add avocado slices.

8) Cheese Steak

Slice beef into thin strips and cook on griddle using chili powder for flavoring if desired. Add sliced green pepper and onion after removing meat from heat then stir-fry with fork until browned and softened into a mixture that is both saucy and chewy at the same time. Place back into bowl and add cheese before putting meat mixture between two slices of bread for a delicious sandwich.

9) Chicken Tacos

Cut boneless, skinless chicken according to desire and add taco seasoning if desired. Put directly onto hot surface where they are cooked until juices run clear when pierced with fork after flipping once browned on each side or simply place inside tortilla and eat like a burrito while avoiding the mess. 

10) Hot Dogs

Cut any type of meat into long strips then cook in skillet for about 8 minutes, turning constantly to avoid burning or overcooking before eating while still juicy and tender like the traditional version of this meal already is. For added deliciousness, add cheese after cooking to achieve greater satisfaction in taste buds when bitten into it. 

11) Omelets

Using eggs, any type of meat with cheese for more deliciousness, and vegetables or fruit if desired, fry omelet on hot surface then cut into small pieces before adding some ketchup to achieve greater pleasure in achieving a taste equal to both sweet and savory at once. For added deliciousness, add beef strips for flavor. 

12) Grilled Cheese Sandwich

Using two slices of bread with cheese inside between them while cooking on griddle, this sandwich is normally eaten by slowly turning the heat up but only cooking it until the bread starts to turn golden brown. The result creates a tasty delight that will surely satisfy your cravings for grilled cheese without having go out or spend much money. 

13) Vegetable Stir-Fry

Using vegetables such as carrots, corn, celery and onions with meat if desired, simply cook on hot surface after adding oil or butter until they are thoroughly cooked to your liking. For added deliciousness, add soy sauce with a hint of garlic for additional flavor with every bite you take.
